When We Were Worthy

The Rules of Magic: A Novel - Alice Hoffman

OMG, I totally loved this book. This was the long-awaited prequel to her bestseller Practical Magic, which I had read 20 years ago. Set in the Sixties, it follows the lives of Owens sisters, Franny and Jet, and their brother Vincent. Through the decade they each experience love, heartache and loss due to a family curse. The characters were so vividly written, I did not want to put the book down for a minute!! I have a feeling that a re-read of Practical Magic will be in order for me soon!! Highly recommended!!

Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine - Gail Honeyman

I started reading this due to it being highly recommended by other readers. After finishing this, I was so glad I did. Eleanor was such a creature of habit, and had no filter when it came to speaking her mind. Yet, once you get to know Eleanor, you reveal the many flaws she has and her story behind those flaws.
I found her so real, and could identify with many aspects of her personality.
The friendship she makes with Raymond was so sweet, I found myself cheering for them, even if it wasn't on a romantic basis.
The ending was very fitting of her development. It really made me smile.
I would highly recommend this to anyone!!

Gone Girl - Gillian Flynn

OMG!! So many twists and turns!! The characters were total train wrecks and utterly despicable, but I found that I couldn't stop reading!! You think you had it figured out, then BAM!, another twist. Hated the ending, though.
